Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) has commenced a consultation process regarding a proposed Code of Practice for Generative AI Systems.

ISED has indicated that Canadian private sector companies would adhere to the code on a voluntary basis ahead of the coming into force of the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act, which has been referred to the Federal Government’s Standing Committee on Industry and Technology (INDU) for consideration as part of the Digital Charter Implementation Act, 2022 (Bill C-27).

The proposed Code of Practice focuses on organizational commitments to various core elements in the development, use and operation of generative AI systems – namely, Safety, Fairness and Equity, Transparency, Human Oversight and Monitoring, Validity and Robustness and Accountability.

Adam Kardash, together with AI experts Dr. Teresa Scassa (Canada Research Chair in Information Law and Policy, University of Ottawa) and Sam Ip (Osler partner, Technology), will lead an interactive online discussion designed to help organizations and trade associations understand the scope, meaning, and impact of the proposed guidelines, and to help prepare submissions to ISED.

Consistent with AccessPrivacy’s approach to the CAI Consent Guidelines Consultation, we will record the discussion, and a copy of the recording will be submitted to ISED as part of its consultation process.

This complimentary AccessPrivacy event will take place on Wednesday, August 30, at 3:00 pm (Eastern Time).
