How Can Organizations Put in Place Effective Governance of AI? Current Best Practices and the Impact of Public Policy
CIPL will share findings from its recent flagship report on Building Accountable AI Programs, and industry practitioners will discuss:
- best practices in accountable governance of AI;
- how to manage the regulatory overlap between privacy/data protection and AI regulations;
- how the expertise of privacy professionals can be leveraged in the context of compliance with AI regulation; and
- the impact of emerging AI regulations, including Canada’s proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA) on current organizational governance practices.
How are Canada‘s Lawmakers and Regulators Proposing to Regulate AI and Data Used to Train AI models?
Experts will discuss emerging regulatory frameworks and guardrails for the development and use of AI technologies in Canada, as well as if and how they might be improved. Particular focus will be on Canada’s Bill C-27 (which includes a proposed Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA) and Consumer Privacy Protection Act (CPPA); the Office of the Privacy Commissioner’s generative AI principles and other AI initiatives. Discussants will compare legal and regulatory initiatives on AI in Canada to experiences in other jurisdictions.
