The Government of B.C. has tabled a bill proposing material amendments to its public sector privacy and access legislation, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 165 ("FOIPPA"), Bill 22 – 2021: Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Amendment Act, 2021, including a rewrite of FOIPPA’s data-residency provisions and mandatory privacy-breach reporting.

As part of our continuing series on Canadian privacy law legislative reform, Adam Kardash was joined by Michael Fekete, Partner in Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt's Technology Group and the National Innovation Leader, discussed the potential impact of these significant changes to FOIPPA.
